Masterson’s Tavern , located in the heart of Moonee Ponds , promotes itself as a chic “hipster” locale , but my unfortunate encounter at this establishment quickly devolved into an unforgettable, terrible experience. While the bar may seem appealing from the exterior , what I found behind its threshold was appalling and beyond comprehension .
The Condition of the Premises : Grimy and Neglected
From the moment I stepped inside , it was evident that sanitation was not a priority at this bar . The floorboards were filthy, and a nauseating aroma of stale beer and dirty bathrooms filled the entire pub. Smelling a mixture of ammonia , old age and sour vomit . The counter , which should be the focal point of any pub, was overflowing with soiled cups and refuse that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks . The toilet was in even worse condition — clogged , with a shattered handle and walls stained in what I can only assume was fecal matter .
It wasn’t just a single bad experience either. After reading through multiple accounts and conversing with residents , it seems that the level of hygiene (or lack thereof) at Masterson’s is a persistent problem . Described as disturbingly assertive and violating, his behavior has created an unwelcoming setting for women who frequent Masterson’s. Instead of stepping in to curb the damage done by her husband’s actions, she looks like she supports his behavior.
